Glossary

Bleed – An instance of printing an illustration or design so as to leave no margin after the page has been trimmed.

CMYK – Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key. This is a colour model that describes each colour in terms of the quantity of each secondary colour (cyan, magenta, yellow) and key (black) it contains.

DPI – The definition of a printed image will be given in DPI (dots per inch). This point number means that a printer can print so many points per inch. The higher the value, the finer the print. A decent print definition is 300 dpi, which meets most requirements.

GSM – GSM stands for grams per square meter. It is the measure of density of the paper. The higher the gsm value, the heavier/thicker the paper, making it more sturdy and robust.

Path – The general outline of a virtual object.

Safe Area – The area that your artwork is displayed on and can be seen.

Trimmed Size – This refers to the dimensions of a document after it has been printed and cut down to its desired width and height from a larger sheet, prior to any folding.
